Our Two Miracles

Our twin boys were born on June 6, 1999 at 29 weeks gestation (2 1/2 months early). They overcame many obstacles while they were in the NICU for the first 3 months of their lives. For those of you who have been in this situation, you know all of the ups and downs you have during this time. There was a time when they were a few weeks old that we thought we were going to lose both of them but God held their tiny hands and they overcame some pretty amazing obstacles and we are so very thankful!!

While in the NICU Jeremy developed a blood clot from the mainline IV and the clot moved into his heart. He had to be on blood thinning drugs & it was touch & go for awhile for eventually the clot slowly broke up. At 9 months old Jeremy had his last heart ultrasound & was finally "free & clear" from the blood clot - Thank God!!!

Jordan developed an infection when he was 2 weeks old, the mainline IV he had went intersticial and instead of pumping into his veins, it filled his whole body up with fluid. He became so weak that he couldn't even breathe himself anymore and had to be put back on the ventilator again. To see him so lifeless was absolutely heartbreaking - but after a week, he was getting stronger again!!

Jordan was born at 3:50am weighing 2lbs. 15 1/2 oz. and was 15 3/4" long. He was intubated and put on the ventilator for three days.

A head ultrasound showed he suffered a grade 2 IVH (brain hemmorage) and at 9 months of age he was diagnosed with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. Jordan undergoes regular physical, occupational & speech therapy and has made great progress over the past year.

Jeremy was born at 4:31am and weighed 3lbs. and was 15 1/2" long. He was intubated and put on the ventilator for 3 1/2 weeks.

Jeremy was born with a birth defect - missing the fibula bone in his left leg as well as two toes. The tibia bone was severely bent in the front of his shin and his left foot was hooked towards the back of his knee. His right foot was missing one toe and was turned in a lot. He had his left foot amputated at 13 months old and they also straightened the tibia bone, but it is bending again. He wears a prosthesis. He wore a night brace for 8 months to correct his right foot from turning in.
